  • Swinson Named "Louisville Slugger" National Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland sophomore right-handed pitcher Scott Swinson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week it was announced by the league Monday.

Swinson, an Ellicott City, Md. native, capped the second 30-win season in school history last Tuesday at Delaware by tossing the sixth no-hitter in the program's history and the first solo no-hitter since John Rayne against Virginia in 1992. Swinson's no-hitter was the first solo and shutout no-hitter by a Terp since 1972, when Rich Fillings did so against Clemson.

Swinson struck out a career-high 10 batters in the Terps' 4-0 victory, allowing only three base runners on two walks and a hit batsman. The win was Swinson's fifth of the season, giving him five on the season to finish with the most on the team. The victory was also Swinson's second complete-game victory of the year and the first complete-game shutout by a Maryland pitcher since Ben Pfinsgraff against UMBC in 2004.

Kevin Biringer was the last Terp to win ACC Pitcher of the Week honors, doing so in February 2007.

North Carolina's Tim Fedroff was named the ACC Player of the Week.
