One for the Win Column: Fueled by Greivis Vasquez's near triple-double, Landon Milbourne's team-high 17 points and a 9-1 run early in the second half, the Terps outlasted the Hurricanes to avenge their matchup in Coral Gables earlier this season.
Vasquez among Top-Five in Assists: By accumulating nine helpers against the Hurricanes, Greivis Vasquez passed Duane Simpkins (1993-96) to move into fifth place in school history with 491 career assists. He is the first Maryland player to enter the school's top-five in either points, rebounds or assists since a trio of Terps (Juan Dixon - points; Lonny Baxter - rebounds; Steve Blake - assists) claimed top-five spots during the 2001-02 season.
Ball Security: One game after committing a then-season-low nine turnovers versus Boston College, Maryland took excellent care of the basketball yet again against Miami, committing a season-low seven turnovers, including just three during the first half. That total marks the lowest by Maryland since committing six turnovers versus Clemson on Jan. 20, 2002.
Venezuelan Sensation: As has been the case all season, guard Greivis Vasquez stuffed the stat sheet versus the Hurricanes, contributing 11 points along with 10 rebounds and nine assists to fall just short of the program's first triple-double in 22 years. Making his 57th consecutive start for the Terps, Vasquez had no turnover in a team-high 35 minutes of play. He now has scored in double figures in 44 of his last 48 games.
Maryland's No. 1: Forward Landon Milbourne continued to be at his best during Atlantic Coast Conference play, accounting for 17 points and six rebounds against Miami. During his last five games, Milbourne is averaging 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds. He now has led or tied for the team lead in scoring in four of the past five games.
Assist/Turnover Ratio: The Terps ranked third in the ACC in assist/turnover ratio (1.1) entering Saturday's game and continued to perform well in that department against Miami. Maryland accumulated 17 assists to just seven turnovers (2.4) versus the Hurricanes, which represents the team's best assist/turnover ratio on the season (previous best: 2.1 versus Delaware State).
Sharing the Rock: The Terps enjoyed balanced scoring against the Hurricanes, as all eight players who entered the game scored and six players finish with at least eight points. Maryland player dished out 17 assists - its second-highest total during conference play. Seven different Terps (Adrian Bowie, Dino Gregory, Eric Hayes, Sean Mosley, Landon Milbourne, Dave Neal and Greivis Vasquez) each accounted for one of the team's first seven field goals.
Streak-Stoppers: Miami forward Adrian Thomas had converted at least two 3-point field goals in seven straight games entering Saturday's contest, but the Terps clamped down defensively, limiting Thomas to just one conversion from behind the arc.
Slam Dunk: Forward Jin Soo Kim entered the game near the end of the first half and promptly brought the crowd to its feet with a drunk off a pass from Greivis Vasquez. The freshman from South Korea later added a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired during the second half.
Free Throw Precision: Maryland entered Saturday's game leading the ACC and ranked ninth in the nation in free throw shooting (77.3 percent) and continued to shoot well from the stripe versus the Hurricanes, hitting 14 of 17 (82.4 percent). The Terps improved to 14-1 when they make more free throws than their opponents.
More Record Book Updates: Several Maryland players have continued their ascents this season through the Maryland record book. In addition to his ever-increasing assist total, Greivis Vasquez moved up several other lists Saturday. He passed Lee Brawley (1949-52) to claim 26th place in school history with 1,250 career points.
Coaching Legend: Now with 618 career victories overall, Gary Williams remains in sixth place among active NCAA Division I coaches. He stands two wins behind Houston coach Tom Penders for fifth place all-time. Williams, who posted his 400th win at Maryland with an overtime victory over Vermont on Nov. 21, also now has 411 career victories as coach of his alma mater.
That's Comcastic: The Terps now stand 97-22 (.815) all-time in games played on its current homecourt. Maryland is 103-51 (.669) at home in ACC games under Williams, including 34-16 (.680) in Comcast Center.
Trey Streak Intact: With Dave Neal's 3-point basket less than three minutes into Saturday's contest, the Terps extended their streak of hitting at least one shot from beyond the arc to 341 consecutive games.
Series Record: By beating Miami Saturday night, Maryland improved to 6-10 all-time versus the Hurricanes, including 2-1 at home and 1-1 overall this season.
