Terps Picked Fifth in Preseason Media Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland was picked to finish fifth this season by members of the media attending the Atlantic Coast Conference Operation Basketball gathering on Sunday at the Grandover Resort.
Terrapin senior Greivis Vasquez was the leading vote-getter for the preseason All-ACC team, but finished second to Duke's Kyle Singler in balloting for the Preseason Player of the Year.
Trevor Booker of Clemson, Malcolm Delaney of Virginia Tech and Ed Davis of North Carolina joined Vasquez and Singler on the preseason all-conference selections.
Duke and North Carolina tied in the voting for the preseason favorite in the league with 545 points, despite the Blue Devils getting 25 first-place votes to 20 for the Tar Heels. Clemson (409), Georgia Tech (387) and Maryland (378) rounded out the top five, followed by Wake Forest, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Miami, Virginia and NC State.
Derrick Favors of Georgia Tech was the overwhelming choice for Preseason Rookie of the Year.
Maryland opens its 2009-10 season with an exhibition game on Nov. 3 against Indiana, Pa., with the regular season tipping off on Nov. 13 against Charleston Southern.
