
Black Takes Red-Black World Series with 10-3 Victory

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Jon Wilson went 5-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Black team to a 10-3 victory Sunday afternoon in the Red-Black World Series at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium at Shipley Field, giving the Black team a 2-1 series win.
Wilson and David Poutier combined to go 15-for-23 in the three-game series for Black, which won Friday's opening game, 11-1. Red won Saturday, 6-5, to set up the decisive third game.
Alfredo Rodriguez pushed across the first run of the game, giving Black a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a bunt ground-out.
Black starting pitcher Charlie Haslup tossed five shutout innings to maintain its 1-0 lead and his offense blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth.
Brandon Padula delivered a two-run single, Jordan Hagel added a two-run double and Jack Cleary and Gary Schneider each pitched in with RBI singles as part of a six-hit, seven-run fifth inning to give Black a commanding 8-0 lead.
Matthew Murakami hit a two-run home run and Kevin Tehansky had an RBI single to account for Red's run production.
Haslup earned the victory for Black and Damien Akins took the loss for Red.
Poutier, Wilson, Padula and Hagel each had at least two hits in the game for Black and Padula drove in a game-high three runs. Padula led all players during the series with seven RBIs.
