COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Continuing a season-opening homestand that has the Maryland men's basketball team playing three home games in eight days, the Terrapins host Fairfield in a Tuesday-night matchup at Comcast Center at 8 p.m.
Maryland cracked the Associated Press Top 25 late Monday afternoon. The Terps moved up one spot to earn its first spot in the poll since the end of 2006-07 season.
The Terps close the brief homestand on Friday against New Hampshire before playing the next five games away from Comcast Center.
Maryland opened its season last Friday with an 89-51 victory over Charleston Southern. The Terrapin put five players in double figures, led by senior Landon Miilbourne, who had 16 points. Sean Mosley added 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor, with Jordan Williams adding a dozen, while James Padgett and Eric Hayes chipped in with 10 each.
The Terrapins' freshmen had solid collegiate debuts against the Buccaneers. Williams finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in 26 minutes, with Padgett having 10 points, eight boards and two blocks in 18 minutes off the bench.
Senior Greivis Vasquez, who led the Terrapins in points, rebounds and minutes a year ago, was not one of the players scoring in double figures for Maryland last Friday. Instead, he posted the second-highest assist total of his career with 13. He was two short of matching the single-game school record of 15, which he shares with Terrell Stokes.
Maryland had seven players with at least nine points against the Buccaneers, including Vasquez and Cliff Tucker. The Terps scored 52 points in the second half, shooting 54 percent from the floor, including 6-for-10 from 3-point range.
Last Friday's victory over Charleston Southern was the 100th for the Terrapins in Comcast Center. Maryland is 100-24 since moving to its new home in the fall of 2003.
