Postgame Quotes
Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams
On the game:
"For the third time I think we've come out hard defensively this year and I think that's a good sign. Sometimes it's hard to get teams to come out with the intensity level that's necessary for what we need all year. We respected New Hampshire and they were willing to play hard against us which really helps us. Hopefully we can continue to do that ... We are a work in progress and are getting to be a good basketball team. As people get healthy I think we have the chance to be good but there's still a lot of work to be done."
On the team:
"I don't judge the margins, scores or anything like that. I just try to get us to play at a certain level. A lot of the times as a coach, I work harder at these games than I do at some of the games later on because when you're functioning on all cylinders and you're a good team, you usually do the right things. Especially with a couple of the freshman out there, you're trying to teach as you go. Where we are right now it's hard to say, but we'll find out next week."
On Landon Milbourne:
"He can score inside and he can score outside. You can label him whatever number you want but he is the guy that can make jumpshots and he can score inside. He's just a good player."
On transition points:
"We're a good ball handling team and we have to keep working at it to maintain that. I'll take the points wherever we can but at this time of the year, you don't want the players to think we'll just get transition points all the time because they're not always there. You have to be a good half court offensive team and that's what we were working on tonight."
Senior guard Eric Hayes
On the play of Landon Milbourne:
"He is a tough matchup for teams because of how he plays the four position. When he's shooting the ball like he was tonight it opens up the court for him to be able to go around guys and get to the hoop."
Freshman forward James Padgett:
On running the half-court offense:
"We worked on it a lot in practice and we trusted everyone to be in their positions and we were able to successfully run the plays we wanted."
Freshman forward Jordan Williams
On the half-court offense:
"We played much better tonight in the half court offense because we came out with a lot more energy than we did last game. We worked hard in practice and it showed."
On leaving for the EA Sports Maui Invitational:
"We have a long flight ahead of us, but we are all excited about the trip and we have no complaints. Hopefully we can continue the way we have been playing so far this season."
On what needs to improve defensively:
"Outside defense, rebounding, and transition defense. We thought that [New Hampshire] had too many offensive rebounds."
