Starting Off: Guard Adrian Bowie and forward Dino Gregory started for the first time this season against Eastern Kentucky. Bowie and Gregory scored the first two baskets of the game, respectively. In the first start of his career, Gregory matched a career-high with eight points (two times, last vs. Virginia 1/20/09) and made 4 of 4 at the free throw line.
Vasquez in Double Figures: After failing to reach double figures in scoring in each of the first four games, Greivis Vasquez has scored at least 12 points in each of the last five games. The senior finished today's game with 20 points.
Others in Double Figures: Landon Milbourne, Eric Hayes and Sean Mosley also chipped in with 19, 16, and 13 points, respectively. Hayes and Mosley lead the team with eight games in double figures, while Milbourne has seven games in double digits.
Series Record: This was just the second meeting between Maryland and Eastern Kentucky. The Terps improved their record to 2-0 vs. the Colonels, having also recorded a 106-57 win on 12/5/73.
Game Trends: At the 11:11 mark of the first half, Maryland led 23-8, had taken twice as many shots as EKU (18 to 9), and held a 9-5 edge on the boards. At that point, the Terps also held a 12-0 edge in the paint and a 10-0 edge in points off turnovers.
Maryland went the first 13:47 of the game without a turnover. The Terps committed just one turnover in the first half while EKU committed nine, helping Maryland to a 15-0 edge in points off turnovers in the first half.
The Terps helped themselves in the first half by hitting 9 of 10 free throws. EKU attempted only one free throw, which it missed.
EKU tied the game at 60 with 8:22 to play in the second half, but from there Maryland took over. The Terps outscored the Colonels 23-12 the rest of the way to secure the win.
Hayes Now Seventh: With four 3-point field goals made against EKU, Eric Hayes has now made 156 3-point field goals in his career. He moved past Walt Williams for seventh place on Maryland's career list. Greivis Vasquez is sixth with 172, and Drew Nicholas is fifth with 176.
Freebies: Maryland went 18-for-22 from the stripe today, marking its highest free-throw percentage of the season (.818). In fact, it was the highest percentage from the line since they went 2-for-2 against Wake Forest on March 3 last season.
Doubling Up: Adrian Bowie had six rebounds on the day, twice as much as his previous season-high (twice, last vs. Villanova, 12/6).
Lead at the half: The Terps improved their record to 6-0 this season when leading at halftime.
Hitting the Boards: Landon Milbourne led Maryland with a season-high nine rebounds. It was the second time he has led the Terps in rebounds this season (8 vs. Fairfield, 11/17). Jordan Williams had led the Terps the other seven games.
