Maryland Women's Tennis Downed by No. 74 Richmond, 5-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team fell Saturday afternoon to No. 74 Richmond, 5-2, at the Tennis Center at College Park. Sophomores Karin Lundmark and Oksana Krutiyenko each picked up singles wins for the Terps.
Richmond (6-1) jumped out to an early lead, taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Eleanor Peters and Maggie MacKeever gave the Terrapins (1-3) a lead in doubles competition, winning the No. 2 position match against Kelly Tidwell and Ashlee Vosters, 8-6.
Maryland was unable to win either additional doubles contests as Pamela Duran and Erin Clark defeated Michal Amir and Lisa Miller, 8-5, while the freshmen duo of Lauren Wolman and Jordan Hansbrough fell to Helen Cunningham and Xenia Schneider in a tight match, 9-7.
In early singles play, Peters fell to Richmond's Clark at the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-0, and Hansbrough to Joanna Matuszczyk, 6-4, 6-0, pushing the Richmond lead to 3-0.
At No. 1 singles, Pamela Duran bested Amir, 6-3, 7-6(4), clinching the match for the Spiders.
With the victory sealed, Richmond added a win at the No. 4 position as Helen Cunningham defeated Miller, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Terrapins ended the match on a positive note, winning the final two contests of the day. Lundmark defeated her Richmond opponent Kelley Tidwell, 6-4, 7-5, from the No. 3 spot. The win evened Lundmark's season dual match record at 2-2.
In her first match of the spring season, Krutiyenko defeated Ashlee Vosters, 6-4, 6-1.
Maryland returns to the courts Sunday at the Tennis Center at College Park with play beginning at 10 a.m.
