COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland women's tennis team was defeated, 7-0, by the Duke Blue Devils Friday afternoon at the Tennis Center at College Park. Facing a very difficult conference opponent, the Terrapins failed to win an individual match for the first time this season.
Reka Zsilinszka clinched the match for the Blue Devils with her 6-1, 6-2, victory over Maggie MacKeever at No. 3 singles. With the win, Duke (12-3, 3-1) moves into a tie for fourth place with Wake Forest in the ACC standings.
Coming off the team's fourth win of the season over NC State last Sunday, Maryland (4-12, 1-5) did not fair as well against the nation's No. 7 ranked team.
Duke grabbed all three doubles contests before moving onto a sweep of the six singles matches.
Oksana Krutiyenko put up the best fight for the Terps at the No. 6 slot. Krutiyenko was edged in the first set, 6-4, before falling to Jessi Robinson in the second set, 6-1.
The Blue Devils entered the match with five singles players and one doubles team nationally ranked.
Maryland returns to the courts Sunday, March 29 to take on another tough ACC foe in No. 18 North Carolina. Play begins at 11 a.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park.
