For the second straight match, the Maryland Women's tennis team faced off against the nation No. 6 team. After falling to Georgia Tech in Atlanta last Saturday, the Terrapins were defeated by Miami, 7-0, Friday at the Tennis Center at College Park. Maryland was able to capture a victory in doubles play as Eleanor Peters and Jordan Hansbrough won at the No. 3 slot.
After falling in the top two doubles spots, the Terps duo of Peters and Hansbrough were able to put the Terps on the board. The Maryland pair defeated opponents Gabriela Mejia and Claudia Wasilewski, 8-5.
Mejia faced Hansbrough for another match, this time in singles play. She sealed the team victory for the Canes in an all-freshmen match-up, winning, 6-1, 6-1.
Maryland junior Peters held strong against the country's No. 4 player, Julia Cohen, for the better part of the first set. Miami's top player gained a 4-3 advantage but then went on to take the set 6-4, and the following set 6-0, for the win.
The Terrapins return to action, Sunday, April 12, to conclude the 2009 regular season against No. 18 Florida State. The match is Maryland senior Michal Amir's final career match in College Park. Play begins at 10 a.m.
