Maryland senior Chanel Williams hurdled her way to the top of the university's record books during the first day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Miami. Her time of 13.71 in the 100 meter hurdle event of the heptathlon, set a new school record.
Prior to today's event, Terp alum, Thema Napier, captured the school record with a time of 13.75 in 2000 at the Terrapin Invitational. Since her time of 13.78 in the 2007 ACC Championships, Williams held the spot behind Napier until she trumped her record with today's time.
Sophomore Kiani Profit is in first place after four of seven events in the women's heptathlon. Profit placed first in the shot put and 200 meters, posting a career-best mark of 38-11.00 in the shot put.
Teammates Williams and Katie Rogus rank third and ninth respectively in the event after today's competition.
In the hammer throw, Ashley Williams finished sixth with a mark of 169-10, earning three points for the Terps. Jesse Echard was 12th at 152-9.
In the women's javelin, teammate Tara Miluszewski finished 6th with a throw of 137-2.
On the men's side, Alex Lundy placed ninth in the 10,000 with a time of 32:03.25.
