ATLANTA, Ga. - The Maryland Women's tennis team lost 7-0, to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Sunday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Christy Striplin and the Yellow Jackets (15-5, 8-1 ACC) wasted little time dispatching of the Terps (4-15, 1-8 ACC). Striplin, ranked 49th nationally, downed Karin Lundmark, 6-3, 6-0, giving Tech a 4-0 match advantage and clinching the team's victory.
Playing at the No. 4 slot, Maggie MacKeever hung tough with Sasha Krupina. Despite a solid effort, MacKeever was edged in both sets, falling 7-6(5), 6-4.
The doubles portion of the match, typically held before the singles matches, was played at the conclusion of singles play. Tech's singles success carried over to doubles as they captured all three matches.
Georgia Tech featured three ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team, giving them the firepower for the sweep of the Terps.
Maryland returns to College Park for the final two matches of the season, facing Miami on Friday, April 10 and Florida State on Sunday, April 12. Play begins Friday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Terrapins and Michal Amir will be celebrating senior day against Florida State as Amir will compete in her final career match at the Tennis Center at College Park.
