COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's swimming and diving team captured its tenth dual meet win of the year Saturday when it topped West Virginia at Eppley Recreation Natatorium.
The Terps (10-2, 3-1 ACC) utilized a strong second half to pick up the win against WVU, 133-108.
Maryland was narrowly topped to begin the meet in three events as Ginny Glover, Annie Fittin and Martha VanLieshout missed first-place finishes by inches in the 200 free, 50 free and 200 IM, respectively.
Glover bounced back to win the 200 back (1:59.08). Jackie Davidson, who finished third in the 50 free (24.16) followed Glover in the 200 back with a second-place finish (2:02.94).
Maryland picked up wins from Jen Vogel in the 200 fly (2:02.11) and Alexa Hamilton in the 200 breast (2:17.12). Alisa Kurbatova continued to own the boards for Maryland, winning both the 1-meter (317.17) and 3-meter (326.02). Kurbatova, who already qualified for Diving Zones, will be joined by freshman Kara Koszowski after the freshman punched her ticket to zones after a 285.45 in the 3-meter.
The Terps also swept both relays, winning the 400 medley relay (3:47.76), courtesy of the team of Fittin, Hamilton, Vogel and Laura Wright. Maryland put together its best time in its win in the 400 free relay as the squad of Wright, Fittin, Megan Lafferty and Glover touched the wall at 3:23.68.
"We swam really well throughout the entire meet and really responded well in the second half," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "It was good to come out on top. We really fought for the win today and had a lot of swimmers step up."
Maryland returns to competition Saturday, Feb. 6, when it plays host to Georgetown on Senior Day.
