COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's swimming and diving team put in a solid effort Saturday, falling to West Virginia in dual meet action at Eppley Recreation Natatorium.

The Mountaineers topped the Terps, 136-107, despite some great swims by Maryland, highlighted by the distance events.

Chris Rouchard won both the 1000 free (9:26.68) and 500 free (4:35.95) as the Terps as a unit picked up hefty points in both events. Nick Evans finished second in the 1000 free (9:35.53) and third in the 500 free (4:38.62). Brian Honore helped Maryland complete the sweep in the 500, taking second (4:37.42).

Andrew Relihan picked up a win in the 200 IM (1:52.01) and finished second in both the 200 back (2:02.94) and 200 breast (2:06.91).

Aleksandar Damjanic added another individual win when he touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:40.83).

Sean Stewart and Roger Dent finished second (1:51.23) and third (1:51.28), respectively, while Ryan Greene put together a solid race in the 50 free notching a second-place finish (21.36).

With a 336.15 in the 3-meter dive, freshman Eric Sachs qualified for Diving Zones later this year. His score provided Maryland with a third-place finish in the event.

"I am really happy how our guy swam today," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "We raced all the way through. We scored a lot more points compared to this meet last year and we are doing a great job of staying in the game right now."

Maryland returns to competition Saturday, Feb. 6, when it plays host to Georgetown on Senior Day.
