COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A list of entrances that have included race cars, military vehicles and magic tricks got longer and better Friday night as men's basketball head coach Gary Williams entered Comcast Center in a flight suit to highlight Maryland Madness.
An excited throng of Terrapin fans were treated to a video simulating Williams flying a plane toward Comcast Center, then entering the floor to the familiar scenes and musical strains of the movie "Top Gun."
The men's and women's basketball teams were introduced to the Comcast Center faithful, with head coach Brenda Frese addressing the crowd to discuss her talented young squad.
The fans also enjoyed dances by the teams, performances by the Maryland Gymkana Troupe and Terrapin Spirit Squads, and an alumni game that featured former All-Americans Keith Booth and Juan Dixon.
Maryland's men's basketball season opens on Monday, Nov. 1 in an exhibition game against Florida Southern at 8 p.m. The Terrapin women hit the Comcast Center floor for the first time the next evening at 7 p.m. when they play host to an exhibition against Gallaudet.
A limited number of single-game tickets and mini-season plans are available by calling the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
