
Solomon Washington Signs With New Orleans Pelicans

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland men's basketball forward Solomon Washington has signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. The native of New Orleans, who attended G.W. Carver High School which is in the Ninth Ward, is expected to join the team during the Summer League season.
Washington averaged a career-best 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds last year in his lone season at Maryland. Overall, in his four-year career between Texas A&M and Maryland, he played in 122 career games (69 starts) averaging 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He finished his career with 744 points, 676 rebounds, 112 blocks, 96 steals, and 88 assists.
This past season, he missed the first eight games of the season due to injury before returning to the starting line-up in December. He led the team in rebounding with 230 while averaging a team-high 31.9 minutes per game. He had six double-doubles on the year.
Washington was named the 2022 Gatorade Louisiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year and led G.W. Carver to a 33-5 record and a Class 4A state championship after averaging 14.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.6 blocks and 2.4 steals per game. He had 23 double-doubles, including a 14-point, 20-rebound performance in the state championship game in which he also had nine assists and six blocks. Overall, the Louisiana native was a two-time first team all-state selection and amassed 1,642 points and 1,435 rebounds in his career.
