Dec. 22, 2010

Recap |  Final Stats |  Quotes |  Photo Gallery

Tipping Off: Maryland improved to 8-4 this season with its 89-50 win over NJIT ... the Terps have won eight straight non-conference home games and are 75-7 all-time at Comcast Center ... it was the first-ever meeting between the two schools ... the Terps' 58.1 percent shooting from the field was also a season-best ... Maryland never trailed.

Spreading the Wealth: With 8:05 left in the first half, Maryland had just gone on an 8-0 run over the last 1:11 to take a 27-13 lead. At that point in the game, seven of the eight Terps that saw the floor had scored and the Terps had assisted on seven of 10 field goals. Eight Terrapins scored in the first half and nine in the game.

Double Figures: Maryland had six players score in double figures, the first time the Terps have done that since 1/19/10 against Longwood. Dino Gregory and Jordan Williams led all scorers with 14, Adrian Bowie had 13, Sean Mosley and Cliff Tucker had 11 each and James Padgett had 10.

Bench Spark: Cliff Tucker came off the bench for the first time this season and provided an immediate spark for the Terrapins. The senior led all scorers with nine points at the break (3-of-4 shooting; 2-of-2 3PT) and had five assists and four steals in just 12 minutes. He finished with six assists, which is a season high and ties a career high.

One shy of Smith: Jordan Williams had his sixth straight double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He also entered the game leading the ACC while ranking fifth nationally in rebounding (11.9 rpg). It's the longest streak of double-doubles for a Maryland player since Joe Smith had seven straight in 1995.

Back-to-Back for Dino: Dino Gregory has scored 14 points in back-to-back games (also against Boston College), matching his career high. It is his fifth game scoring in double figures in the last eight. The senior just missed a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds.

Good From Three: Maryland set season highs with nine 3-pointers made and 3-point shooting percentage (9 of 15, 60 percent). That's the best 3-point shooting percentage since Maryland made 8 of 13 (61.5 percent) against Clemson on 2/24/10.

Tidbits: Maryland put six players in double figures, the first time since the Illinois game this year ... James Padgett had a career-high tying 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting, including 4 of 6 at the line ... Terrell Stoglin matched a season high with five assists ... the Terps were 20 of 26 (.769) from 3-point land, their third-best mark this season.

Game Trends: Maryland scored 25 points off 18 NJIT turnovers in the first half, while NJIT failed to score any points off four Maryland TOs and the Terrapins' lead at the half was 35 ... Maryland's biggest run was a 17-0 spurt over 4:37 late in the first half to increase its lead from 12 to 29 ... the Terps had four runs of at least 6-0 ... Maryland outscored NJIT 34-14 in the paint in the game and 33-19 in points off the bench ... the Terps finished with a 32-8 advantage in points off turnovers ... the Terps held NJIT to just 32.1 percent shooting.
