
Terps Take Third in 200 Medley Relay

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After only one session, the Maryland women's swimming and diving team has already landed on the podium, placing third in the 200 medley relay at the 2010 ACC Championships on Wednesday on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
Maryland took third with a B-cut performance (1:40.57) in the 200 medley relay courtesy of the team of Annie Fittin, Nina Rossi, Jen Vogel and Megan Lafferty. Virginia won the event in ACC-record time, with host-UNC coming in second.
The Terps followed with a school-record showing in the 800 free relay, taking fifth with a time of 7:11.34, also a B-cut performance. The squad of Ginny Glover, Laura Wright, Rossi and Fittin provided Maryland with 28 additional points and helped the Terps roll into day two of the championships tied for third in team standings, only four points-shy of the second-place Tar Heels. Wednesday night's time broke a Maryland record established in 2005 (7:13.29).
Maryland begins day two tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. with the prelims of the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free. Both the men's and women's divers will compete tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Finals of the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 200 free relay will commence at 7 p.m.
