CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sophomore Alisa Kurbatova took second place in the 1-meter dive to lead Maryland in day two of the 2010 ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Maurice J. Koury Natatorium.

Kurbatova scored a 337.50 in the finals after tallying a 275.90 in the prelims this afternoon. The Moscow, Russia, native took third a year ago in record-breaking fashion and did much of the same this season, shattering her previously-set Terp record (333.05) Thursday night.

Maryland ended the evening session with a stellar showing in the 200 free relay, finishing second and establishing a new school-record. The team of Annie Fittin, Laura Wright, Megan Lafferty and Ginny Glover finished just behind Virginia with a time of 1:30.05, over a second better than the previous Maryland record accomplished in 2001.

Fittin came extremely close to reaching the podium individually, missing a third-place finish in the 50 free by .01 seconds (22.50). Wright also was a point-scorer in her last championships, taking tenth (23.08). Wrapping up the 50 free finals Thursday night was Lafferty (23.11) and senior Jackie Davidson (23.41), who finished 19th and 22nd, respectively.

Jen Vogel picked up a B-cut performance in her preliminary swim during the morning session, finishing tenth (2:01.55) and Nina Rossi tallied Maryland's best showing in the finals, taking 22nd (2:04.24).

Maryland, which is currently in fifth in the team standings, gets back to action Friday morning at 11 a.m. with prelims in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back. Men's 1-meter dive and women's 3-meter dive will take place Friday afternoon.
