Terps Win Three In Home Quad

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland gymnastics team won its home quad meet Sunday afternoon in the Comcast Center Arena. The Terps won the balance beam and floor events to claim three wins over William & Mary and East Atlantic Gymnastics League teams Pittsburgh and George Washington.

Maryland earned an overall team score of 194.500. Pittsburgh finished second with a 192.925, William & Mary was third with 188.175 and George Washington was fourth with their score of 186.650.

"Finally, we pulled everything together. That was our game plan from outside. We were going to hit every routine every time," head coach Brett Nelligan said. "It was good to hit all 24 routines, but we have cleaning up we can do on certain events, but that's what we can work on this week in the gym."

The Terps jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. After the first rotation, which was vault, the Terps took the lead. Freshman Ally Krikorian led the Terrapins with a 9.850, while junior Abigail Adams wasn't far behind with a 9.825. They finished second and third on vault, respectively. Junior Jennifer Iovino earned a career high 9.775. The Terps' vault team score was 48.925.

Moving on to bars, Adams and freshman Kesley Cofsky finished first and second in the event. Adams earned a season-high 9.800, while Cofsky was given a 9.750, a new career high. As a team, the Terps earned a 48.225 in the event.

On beam, seniors Brandi George and Talia Tossone finished second and third. George earned a 9.850, a new season high, and Tossone earned a 9.775. Senior Michelle Brenner broke her season high 9.600 with her 9.650. Their team score was a 48.525.

In the Terrapins final event of the day, floor, they earned a 48.825. Adams, who was the final competitor of the meet, won the floor exercise competition with her 9.850. Brenner ended up third with a 9.775, while George and sophomore Kyra Phillips tied for fourth with scores of 9.750. Phillips' score was a career high and Adams tied her season high.

The Terrapins will head to EAGL opponent New Hampshire next Saturday, Feb. 27 for a dual meet at 4 p.m.
