Postgame Notes - NCAA Tournament First Round

On A Roll: With tonight's victory, the Terps have won 10 of their last 12 games and 14 of their last 17 ... Maryland has won its last 10 NCAA first-round games, dating back to 1997 ... Maryland is now 38-22 all-time in NCAA Tournament games.

Williams Doubles Up: Jordan Williams posted his seventh double-double of the season with career highs in points (21) and rebounds (17). He reached twin figures in scoring (10) and rebounding (10) in the first half. The freshman has posted double-figure rebounding totals in six of his last nine games and hit double figures in scoring in five of the last nine. His rebounding total was the third-highest for a Terp in an NCAA game (21 by Joe Smith vs. Texas, 03-18-95; 20 by Tom Roy vs. Louisville, 03-22-75).

On the Glass: The Terps were dominant on the glass this evening. On the season, Maryland held a +0.5 rebound margin per game, but posted 50 boards to Houston's 29. It was just the third time this season the Terps had 50 or more rebounds.

Points in the Paint: The Terps dominated in the paint, outscoring Houston 42-22. It was the biggest margin since Maryland had 42 points in the paint to just 20 for Miami on Jan. 26, 2010.

Milbourne Back on Track: After not reaching double figures in six straight games, Landon Milbourne has hit twin figures in each of the last two contests. He had 10 in the first half and went to post 19 points, his highest output since tallying 19 vs. Longwood on Jan. 19, 2010. He's averaging 17.0 points and 6.5 rebounds over the last two contests.

Tidbits: The Terps have 13 double-doubles on the season and Jordan Williams has posted the last seven ... The Terps connected on 21 of 25 free throws (84 percent), marking the third time in the last five games the team has hit at least 80 percent ... Maryland improved to 20-0 this season when leading at the half.

Coaching Mark: Gary Williams and Tom Penders entered tonight's game with 648 career coaching victories apiece. They were tied for fifth on the active Division I list. Williams now takes sole possession of fifth place.
