Hayes Invited to 3-Point Contest

March 30, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Eric Hayes of the University of Maryland has been invited to participate in the men's 3-point shooting college championship on April 1 at the Indiana Convention Center.

The championship, sponsored by Ford, will be part of ESPN's coverage of the event from 9 to 11 p.m. EDT. The event includes a men's 3-point shootout, a women's 3-point contest and the slam dunk contest.

Hayes, a Terrapin senior from Woodbridge, Va., averaged 11.3 points per game this season for Maryland, which shared the regular-season title in the Atlantic Coast Conference and finished 24-9.

Hayes hit 64 of 141 3-pointers this season (.454) and finished his career with a .405 accuracy mark behind the arc (196-for-484), fourth all-time at Maryland. He was two 3-pointers short of qualifying for being the most accurate 3-point shooter in the ACC.

He finished his career fourth all-time at Maryland with his 196 3-pointers and fifth with his 484 3-point attempts. Hayes also set the school career free-throw shooting record at .870.

Hayes is scheduled to be joined in the competition by Sherron Collins of Kansas, Jerome Randle of California and Roman Martinez of New Mexico. Other participants were to be announced later.
