Terps End Regular Season at UVa

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Maryland finishes the regular season at Virginia, trying to extend its six-game winning streak, sweep the Cavaliers and clinch at least a tie for the regular-season championship in the Atlantic Coast Conference. An afternoon win over Virginia would force Duke to win at home Saturday night to tie the Terrapins for the top spot.

Maryland last won the ACC regular-season championship in 2001-02 with a 15-1 league record. That was the same year the Terrapins won the NCAA national championship. Maryland's 12 league victories are the most since that season.

The Terrapins returned to the national polls this week, coming in at No. 22 in the Associated Press poll and No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' voting.

Greivis Vasquez and Jordan Williams swept the weekly ACC Player and ACC Rookie awards Monday.

With the 104-100 double-overtime win at Virginia Tech, Maryland head coach Gary Williams became only the third coach in ACC history to win 200 ACC regular-season and tournament games. Williams is in his 21st year as head coach at his alma mater. He has moved into fifth place nationally in victories among NCAA Division I coaches, now with 647.

The Terrapins have clinched a first-round bye for next week's ACC Tournament in Greensboro. Maryland will play its opening game in the tournament on Friday.

Scouting the Cavaliers

Virginia comes into its final game of the regular season having lost its last eight straight games... Five of those eight have been on the road as the Cavs have faced a tough schedule down the stretch... Virginia's most recent game was a 68-55 loss at Boston College on Wednesday... Maryland defeated the Wahoos, 85-66, in Comcast Center on 2/15...

Sylven Landesberg continues to lead Virginia in scoring with a 17.3 points-per-game average... The sophomore forward is 5th in the conference in scoring, 8th in field-goal percentage (.443) and 5th in free-throw percentage (.810)...

Mike Scott averages 12.3 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game (13th in the ACC)... Sharp-shooting guard Sammy Zeglinski has 52 3-pointers this season and is hitting .371 from behind the arc.
