Vasquez Selected To All-ACC First Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior guard Greivis Vasquez of Maryland was one of three unanimous selections to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team, announced Monday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
In addition, Maryland freshman Jordan Williams was one of five players selected to the ACC's All-Rookie Team.
Vasquez is the first Terrapin named first team All-ACC since Steve Blake was a first-teamer in 2002-03. Vasquez received his third selection to the All-ACC teams, as he was a second-team choice in each of the last two seasons.
The senior from Caracas, Venezuela, is the first Maryland player since Blake to be named to All-ACC squads three times.
Vasquez, one of six finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the best point guard in the nation, is the only player in ACC history to reach 2,000 points, 700 assists and 600 rebounds. He is the only player in Division I currently averaging more than 19 points and six assists per game.
Jon Scheyer of Duke and Malcolm Delaney of Virginia Tech were the other unanimous selections for All-ACC. They were joined on the first team by Trevor Booker of Clemson and Kyle Singler of Duke.
Williams leads the Terrapins and is fourth in the ACC in rebounding with an 8.3 per-game average. He is averaging 12.8 points and 10 rebounds in his last seven games. He is only the third freshman in Maryland history with at least 250 points and 250 rebounds, joining Buck Williams and Joe Smith with that milestone.
Williams is the first Terrapin to make an All-Freshman team since Steve Blake in 2000.
A Torrington, Conn., native, Williams was joined on the All-Rookie Team by Derrick Favors of Georgia Tech, Durand Scott of Miami, C.J. Harris of Wake Forest and Michael Snaer of Florida State.
Announcements for other awards in the ACC, including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, are expected on Tuesday.
