Redshirt freshman D.J. Adams ran for a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to spark the White team, as it scored the final 21 points of the game to complete a 21-13 comeback victory over the Red in Maryland's annual Spring Football Game at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Adams finished as the game's leading rusher, gaining 70 yards on 14 carries. His 9-yard run with 8:39 to play gave the White team a 14-13 lead, and he added a 4-yard plunge with 3:10 to play to pad the margin.
The intrasquad game was played with 10-minute quarters.
"I thought we got out of the scrimmage exactly what I wanted," head coach Ralph Friedgen said. "There were a number of plays. Everybody got in. I thought everybody played hard. There are a couple things we have to get better at, but I thought we tackled better than we did last scrimmage."
Jamarr Robinson, atop the depth chart at quarterback, threw for 143 yards on 11-for-18 passing. He quarterbacked the Red team in the first half, as it rolled to a 13-0 halftime lead.
Robinson hit Torrey Smith with a 25-yard touchdown pass to cap the game's opening drive. Nick Ferrara hit a pair of field goals for the Red team in the first half, connecting from 26 and 28 yards.
Danny O'Brien hit Kevin Dorsey with a 19-yard scoring pass for the White team's first score, coming with 5:45 left in the third quarter. O'Brien hit 10 of 16 passes for 93 yards, but joined Robinson with a pair of interceptions in the game.
Da'Rel Scott finished with 26 yards on four carries, seeing limited time in the game. Smith had game highs in receptions (4), receiving yards (90) and all-purpose yards (126), while Tony Logan had three catches for 19 yards and a 22-yard punt return.
Cornerback Cameron Chism (White) and linebacker Ryan Donohue (Red) each had seven tackles to lead the defense. Kenny Tate had a pair of interceptions for the White team.
The offensive line, which Friedgen has praised repeatedly this spring for its continued improvement, surrendered just one sack in 46 total pass attempts. Redshirt freshman Bradley Johnson, who may figure in as a pass-rushing specialist in the fall, sacked Robinson on the final play of the first half.
Friedgen likes how the team ended its 15-practice spring season which began on March 23.
"I think we've had a very good spring," Friedgen said. "I'm very pleased by where we're at right now. We'll get some people back (from injury) and have a good summer. I think we should be ready to go."
