LAS VEGAS, Nev. - For four seasons, Greivis Vasquez and Landon Milbourne helped pace the Maryland Terrapins to success as teammates.
Tonight, they become competitors when they are part of the Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks squads that play their opening games in the NBA Summer League.
Memphis and Atlanta play at 10:30 p.m. EDT. The game is available on television through an NBA Broadband service.
Vasquez was the second selection by the Grizzlies and the 28th pick overall in June's NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 point guard is one of 10 Memphis players who will take part in the five Summer League games.
Among Vasquez's teammates on the Grizzlies' summer squad are fellow first-round pick Xavier Henry from Kansas, and second-year players O.J. Mayo and Sam Young.
Vasquez won the 2010 Cousy Award as the top collegiate point guard in the nation and was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. He led Maryland with a 19.6 points-per-game average and led the league by averaging 6.3 assists per game.
Milbourne, a 6-foot-7 forward, is one of six rookies on the Hawks' Summer League roster. Atlanta's group of 12 players have only 10 games of experience in NBA regular-season action.
Milbourne, signed by Atlanta as a free agent, averaged 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season for Maryland's ACC regular-season co-champions.
