ACC Composite Schedule
GREENSBORO, N.C. -
An outstanding non-conference schedule, blended with the typically difficult road through the Atlantic Coast Conference, highlight the University of Maryland men's basketball schedule for 2010-11, announced Thursday by the ACC Office.
The Terrapins face 14 games against teams that appeared in the postseason last year, including its typical home-and-home series with defending national champion Duke. Based in large part to their regular season co-championship in the ACC last year, the Terps will play 14 games on national television outlets in 2010-11.
A limited number of season tickets are available for sale to the general public. Fans can take advantage of a six-month, no-interest payment plan and can become a season ticket-holder for as low as $101.50 per month per ticket. For more information, fans can call the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
Highlighting the non-conference schedule is the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. Maryland will host two games in the regional round, opening the regular season on Nov. 8 with Seattle and facing Charleston two days later.
The Terrapins play in the national-round semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 18 against Pittsburgh, then face either Illinois or Texas the next night.
"Our non-conference schedule is as tough as any we've played since I've been here," said head coach Gary Williams, who will be in his 22nd season at his alma mater. "This will give us a chance to become a better basketball team as we head forward to conference play.
"The 2K Sports Classic benefitting Coaches vs. Cancer is a very good tournament. Starting with our first two games at home, then in New York you have a Big 12, Big Ten and Big East team with us. That will be one of the top tournaments in November this season."
Maryland will also play at Penn State on Dec. 1 in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge, and returns from that game to face Temple on Dec. 5 in its annual appearance in the BB&T Classic at the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C. The Terrapins will also have a nationally televised matchup with Villanova at Wachovia Center on Saturday, Jan. 15.
In the ACC, Maryland will play home-and-home series with Boston College, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The Terrapins will play once each at home against Clemson, Florida State and NC State, and will make trips to play Georgia Tech, Miami and North Carolina.
The Terrapins make their first Comcast Center appearance this season on Oct. 15 when they host Maryland Madness. There will be an exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 1 against Florida Southern.
