BALTIMORE -
Maryland continued its hot start Sunday night rolling off a 7-0 win at UMBC.
The Terps (3-0, 0-0 ACC) utilized the same lineup from the first two meets against UMBC (3-1, 0-0 America East), getting strong performances from freshman Jordaan Sanford, junior transfer Ana Belzunce, and junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar.
Belzunce didn't drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 trouncing of the Retriever's Kim Berghaus at No. 2 singles. Sanford and Sanchez-Quintanar also dominated, droping only 4 games between the two of them in singles and doubles. Sanford easily defeated Carmen Jackman at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-2. Sanchez-Quintanar also had no problems at No. 3 singles overpowering UMBC's Julia Gragera-Cano 6-1, 6-1.
Maryland once again dominated in doubles, giving them another early edge. Sanford and Sanchez-Quintanar breezed past Jackman and Gragera-Cano 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Belzunce and Welma Luus then handled Heidi Danielsson and Josefin Stange-Jonsson 8-2 giving the Terps the early point.
The Terps now head in to ACC play Friday afternoon with three very solid performances behind them. Maryland will travel to Boston College for a 4 p.m. matchup Friday at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass.
