GREENSBORO, N.C. -
University of Maryland sophomore Terrell Stoglin has earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honor, the league office announced Monday.
Stoglin, a guard from Tucson, Ariz., scored 31 points to lead the Terrapins to a 78-71 win over Notre Dame Sunday in the BB&T Classic in Washington, D.C. He scored 18 points in the second half as Maryland held off a rally from the Irish.
Stoglin, who also had 25 points earlier in the week in a loss to Illinois, is the leading scorer in the ACC with a 22.4 points-per-game average. Through Sunday's games, he is ninth nationally in scoring.
He is the only ACC player so far this season with a pair of 30-point games, having set a career-high with 32 points in a win over Colorado.
Stoglin is the first Maryland player to win the award since Jordan Williams won Player of the Week on Nov. 15, 2010 - the inaugural award of last season. Stoglin won ACC Rookie of the Week twice late last season.
Miami's Shane Larkin earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Maryland, now 4-3 overall, plays host to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
