Tipping Off: Maryland improved to 15-8, including 5-4 in conference play ... the Terps have won three of their last four games and are now tied for fourth in the ACC standings ... Maryland leads the all-time series with Wake Forest, 64-56, and swept the season series ... the Terps led by as many as 16 in the first half and 40-32 at the half. Wake Forest closed to within nine twice in the second half (48-39, 51-42), but trailed by as many as 26 ... a 13-0 run by the Terps over a 2:31 span increased the lead to 73-50 with 7:06 left in the game.
Starting Lineup: Maryland used a starting lineup of guards Adrian Bowie, Sean Mosley and Pe'Shon Howard, along with forward Dino Gregory and center Jordan Williams. It's the third time this season the team has gone with that lineup, with the Terps holding a 3-0 record. It was Howard's fourth start of the season. Howard scored nine points, dished out a career-high tying eight assists and had just one turnover. He was involved with the Terps first four field goals (one 2-pointer and three assists).
Williams Ties Wooden: Gary Williams is only the 24th head coach in history to reach 650 career Division I victories, including both active and inactive coaches. Today's win, his 664th, ties him for 22nd with legendary UCLA coach John Wooden (Indiana State `47-48, UCLA `49-75) on the Division I list.
Williams Closing in on Another Mark: Sophomore Jordan Williams had his nation-leading 20th double-double of the season with a career-high tying 27 points and a season-high tying 15 rebounds ... that's just two shy of the Maryland single-season record owned by Len Elmore (1974) ... Williams also moved into fifth in Maryland history for single-season rebounds by a sophomore, passing Al Bunge (see below).
Most rebounds by a sophomore (single-season) - Maryland history
1. Joe Smith (1995) 362
2. Len Elmore (1972) 351
3. Lonny Baxter (2000) 308
4. Tom McMillen (1972) 306
5. Jordan Williams (2011) 275
6. Al Bunge (1958) 265
7. Chris Wilcox (2002) 257
8. Jerrod Mustaf (1990) 254
A Helping Hand: The Terps, the league leaders at 16.5 per game, had 27 assists on 35 field goals. The assist total was the most during an ACC game this year and matched a season-best (vs. Colgate, 1/4/11).
Holding Onto the Ball: The Terps posted a season-low seven turnovers (nine on three occasions). Starting guards Adrian Bowie and Pe'Shon Howard combined for 14 assists and just two turnovers.
Tidbits: Haukur Palsson had a career-high nine points in 17 minutes ... Wake Forest leads the league in blocks (6.0 per game) and had eight today ... Maryland, the third-leading rebounding team in the ACC (+4.4 per game) held a 39-33 edge on the glass.
