Profit Ties for Second at NCAAs

March 11, 2011

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Kiani Profit crushed her own school record in the pentathlon and set a NCAA event record on the way to a tie for second place in the multi-event Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships being hosted by Texas A&M.

Profit scored 4,396 points over the five events to erase her previous school record of 4,250 set at this year's Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. In the final event of the day, Profit ran 2:09.67 in the 800 meters to set a NCAA mark in the pentathlon 800. It was the second-fastest time in Maryland history indoors.

Brianne Theisen scored 4,540 points to set a collegiate record and win the event. Profit made up a 140-point deficit to Chantae McMillan of Nebraska in the final event to tie her for second.

Her finish earned Maryland seven team points in the women's standings.

Profit opened the day by scoring 1,037 points with a mark of 8.41 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. It was one-hundredth of a second off her school record set at last year's NCAA Pentathlon. She finished third in the hurdles on Friday.

She then went 5 feet, 8.75 inches in the high jump, surpassing her indoor career-best by 1.50 inches. It also improved Profit's sixth-place mark in the high jump indoors at Maryland. Theisen set an NCAA record in the pentathlon high jump by winning the event at 6-0.50.

Profit had a mark of 39-4.50 in the shot put and 19-3.50 in the long jump to head into the final event of the day in fourth place.

Dwight Barbiasz will compete for Maryland on Saturday in the men's high jump.
