GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Dwight Barbiasz of Maryland continued his hot streak in the men's high jump by winning the prestigious Florida Relays title on Saturday.

Barbiasz cleared 7 feet, 3-3/4 inches to win the event, matching his career-best outdoor mark set last weekend. Barbiasz already earned All-America status this year indoors in the high jump.

Jon Hill went over the 7-foot mark for the first time this season outdoors, tying for fourth at 7-0 1/2.

Also in Gainesville, Terrapin junior DeAnna Brown made the most of her season debut by going 11.82 in the women's 100-meter dash, setting a personal best. Her time moved her into fifth on Maryland's all-time list and was more than a tenth faster than her previous best.

D'Ambour Lewis also had a career-best in the 100, going 11.96 to solidify her position in seventh on the Terps' career list in that event.

Freshman Amina Smith tied for fifth in the women's high jump at 5-8.75.

Maryland's throwers continued to have a strong spring, with Kristen Batts posting 154-6 in the discus to finish second. Moriah Young was sixth in the shot put at 46-9.50, and Jessie Echard led the Terps in the hammer with a 10th-place effort at 171-5.

Maryland's men's 4x400 relay team (Dareem David, Shawn David, Chris Brown, Floyd Hawkes) earned an IC4A-qualifying mark of 3:16.16, while the women's 4x100 relay qualified for the upcoming ECAC meet at 47.54.

Maryland also set a group of student-athletes to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., this weekend.

Freshman Corey Puffett placed sixth in the men's 3,000 meters at 8:40.90, while Chris Parker was seventh in the men's 110 hurdles at 15.21.

Terrapin relay teams picked up points for eighth-place finishes in the men's 4x800 (Sumanth Kuppalli, Sean O'Leary, Joshua Finkle and Craig Morgan went 7:46.80 - 3rd-best all-time), the women's 4x400 (4:00.32) and the women's 4x800 (Maryam Fikri, Ashley Cromartie, Ariana Tabatabaie and Julie Sinkovitz went 9:11.11).

The women's sprint medley relay team of Lewis, Brown, Ashley Hendrix and Taylor Bumpas ran 3:58.60 for a strong effort in Gainesville.

The Terps return home next Saturday for the annual Maryland Invitational at the Kehoe Track Complex. The first event begins at 9 a.m.
