COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Postgame notes following Maryland's 61-50 win over Georgia Tech Sunday at Comcast Center.
Tipping Off: Maryland improved to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech fell to 8-9 and 1-2 in the conference ... Maryland has won 11 of the last 12 in the series and has a 39-24 edge all-time ... the Terps' only loss to Tech since 2004 was a 69-64 defeat in the 2010 ACC Tournament ... Maryland has won six straight at home in the series.
Scoring Defense: Maryland held Georgia Tech to 19 points on 24.1 percent shooting in the first half. That marked the fewest points by an opponent in one half since Colgate had 17 points in the first half on Jan. 4, 2011. It's the first time the Terps held an ACC opponent under 20 points in a half since Jan. 12, 1997, when NC State was limited to 17 in the first half of a game Maryland won 68-59 in Raleigh, N.C.
More on Defense: The Terps allowed just one Yellow Jacket to score in double figures (Kammeon Holsey with 11), while holding leading scorer Glen Rice Jr. to six points on 2-of-8 shooting. Rice had averaged 25.0 points in his first two ACC contests. Georgia Tech shot 33.9 percent for the game, the second lowest by a Maryland opponent this season (Radford 32.1).
Rebounding Margin: Maryland narrowly outrebounded Georgia Tech (37-35), which had come into the game third in the ACC in rebounding margin at plus-6.6 per game. The Terps have outrebounded their opponent in seven of the last eight games.
Padgett: James Padgett continues to be a strong force on the offensive boards. The junior came into Sunday's game leading the ACC and ranking sixth nationally with 4.1 offensive rebounds per game and had a career-high seven vs. the Yellow Jackets. That helped propel him to 14 points (two shy of his career-high) on 4-of-10 shooting including 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. Padgett finished with nine overall rebounds and added one assist and a block without committing a turnover in 30 minutes.
Mosley: Sean Mosley had a game-high 18 points (16 in the second half), marking the third time the senior has led Maryland in scoring this season. Mosley, who knocked down all 10 of his free-throw attempts, has scored in double figures in four straight games. After making both of his 3PT attempts on Sunday, the senior is shooting 42 percent (21 of 50) from long range this season. Mosley is the 19th Terp in school history to have a perfect night from the line with at least 10 attempts.
Stoglin: Terrell Stoglin had 14 points and matched a career-high with five rebounds (all defensive). The sophomore knocked down 4 of 12 shots from the field including 3 of 7 from 3PT range, where he is shooting 48 percent (25 of 52) over the last six games.
Tidbits: Maryland used a starting lineup of Pe'Shon Howard, Terrell Stoglin, Sean Mosley, James Padgett and Alex Len for the fourth time this season ... the Terps are 3-1 with that lineup ... Nick Faust matched his career-high with three steals and leads the Terrapins in that category this season (16) ... the freshman also added eight points on 4 of 7 shooting ... Maryland had its best performance of the season from the free-throw line, knocking down 19 of 23 attempts (82.6 percent) ... Len didn't score but had nine rebounds.
