
Terps Top Towson To Start 2012

TOWSON, Md. - The Maryland swimming and diving team began the second half of its season with a pair of convincing victories at Towson Saturday.
The men's team picked up its second straight dual meet win with a 239-59 rout of the Tigers. The squad took first in every event.
Matthew Tynan captured the 500 (4:44.57) and 1000 free (9:44.09), David Speese won the 100 (58.26) and 200 breast (2:09.62), Bradley Dillon touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:43.34) and 200 back (1:54.24), and John Hauser picked up a pair of wins in the 50 (21.22) and 100 free (46.27) as well as the 200 IM (1:54.56).
Sean Stewart won the 200 fly (1:54.36) and Jeff Winters took home the 100 fly (51.49). Kyle Madley won the 100 back (52.77). Jack Clewlow swept the diving events, capturing the 1-meter (295.88) and 3-meter (371.70).
On the relay side, the team of Dillon, Anderson Sloan, Winters and Hauser won the 200 medley (1:33.47) and Charlie Rommel, Dillon, Winters and Rob Maurer won the 200 free (1:26.55).
The women's team, ranked 25th in the latest CSCAA poll, racked up its fourth win of the season with a 187-111 victory.
First place finishes included Kacie Ciampoli in the 1000 free (10:20.63), Ginny Glover in the 200 free (1:53.55) and 200 back (2:05.02), Melanie Busch in the 100 back (57.87), Addison Koelle in the 200 fly (2:04.57), Megan Lafferty in the 50 free (23.88) and 100 fly (55.98), Victoria Cassidy in the 500 free (5:00.66) and Jennifer Roberts in the 200 IM (2:06.33).
Alisa Kurbatova captured the 3-meter (280.35) to pick up additional points on the boards.
The Terps also won the 200 medley relay with the team of Glover, Alexa Hamilton, Lafferty and Carolyn Fittin (1:45.86).
Maryland travels to Pittsburgh for a quadrangular against the host Panthers, Villanova and Richmond Jan. 13 and 14 in its next action.
