COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The ninth annual coat drive, hosted by Shawne Merriman's Lights On Foundation, will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 11 during the men's basketball game with Wake Forest.
Fans are encouraged to donate any new or gently-used coats, hats, scarves and mittens for distribution to those in need through the local area. Drop-off will take place at Gates A and E inside Comcast Center that night.
Merriman, who is a linebacker with the NFL's Buffalo Bills, was a first-round draft choice out of the University of Maryland in the 2005 Draft. He was the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year winner following the 2005 season and is a three-time All-Pro selection.
Merriman will also be available for an autograph session from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. behind Section 207.
Over the past eight years, the coat drive has collected nearly 20,000 garment items for the benefit of the Community for Creative Non-Violence Shelter in Washington, D.C.
Fans unable to make it to the game can drop off donations until Friday, Jan. 13 in the Academic Center on the first floor of the Comcast Center. The hours for the drop-off are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
