2013 Maryland Women's Lacrosse Schedule
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's lacrosse head coach Cathy Reese announced the squad's 2013 schedule Monday. The Terps will play eight NCAA tournament teams from last season.
After hosting Japan in an exhibition Feb. 1, Maryland, which landed in the final four for the fourth straight season in 2012, will trek to Richmond Feb. 10 and Syracuse Feb. 17 before returning home for an early conference test against Duke Feb. 24.
The Terps will then have a full week of practice to prepare its second ACC battle at Virginia March 1. Following its trip to Charlottesville, Maryland returns home for a trio of contests against Hofstra (March 3), UMBC (March 5) and Penn State (March 9).
The four-time defending ACC champions then hit the road for three straight at Boston College (March 16), Stony Brook (March 17) and William & Mary (March 20).
Maryland caps the month of March with home games versus James Madison March 23 and Penn March 30 with a bout at Towson in-between on March 26.
The Terps spend the majority of April at the friendly confines of the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex with games against North Carolina (April 6), Princeton (April 10) and Dartmouth (April 14).
Maryland concludes the regular season at Virginia Tech April 20 before heading to the ACC Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C., April 25-28.
"We are very excited about our schedule for the 2013 season," head coach Cathy Reese said. "We will be tested all season by our always-challenging conference schedule as well as some very competitive non-conference opponents. We believe this schedule will help ensure we are prepared for success in the postseason."
The NCAA tournament format expands in 2013 as all 13 conference champions will receive automatic qualification into the field. The remaining 13 teams will be at-large selections.
The top eight teams will be seeded in the bracket and will host first- and second-round games. The top six seeded teams will receive byes into the second round and serve as hosts for a neutral-site first-round game May 10. The first-round winners then play at the top-six seeded teams May 12. The teams seeded seventh and eighth will also host, but they will have to play a first-round game May 10.
