COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland men's basketball team hosted their annual open scrimmage at Comcast Center on Saturday afternoon.
The White team defeated the Red team 31-29 in a spirited 20-minute scrimmage. Dez Wells, who played with the Red Team, impressed by leading all scorers with 15 points.
The Terps held ann intense two-hour practice prior to the scrimmage, and head coach Mark Turgeon came away happy with the effort.
"I was pleased," Turgeon said. "We made some bad decisions, got away with some bad decisions. There were some flashes out there. We got them divided up pretty evenly, but overall I was pleased."
Turgeon signaled out individual performances by guard Pe'Shon Howard, center Alex Len and the aforementioned Wells.
"Dez made shots today," Turgeon said. "He was great on the break. It was kind of his day out there. Dez is a good player, but this was probably his best performance. The lights came on for him."
Len made all three of his field goal attempts to finish with seven points, while Howard had a 3-pointer and two assists. Charles Mitchell had a scrimmage-high six rebounds, while Seth Allen's three assists were a scrimmage high.
The Terps host their lone preseason game on Friday, Nov. 2 against Indiana (Pa.) at 7 p.m.
