Junior Brady Kirkpatrick tossed five innings of scoreless baseball Sunday afternoon to propel Team Szefc to a 6-0 victory over Team Vaughn in Game 2 of the Fall World Series at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. With the victory, Team Szefc claimed the series following a 7-5 win yesterday.
In five innings of work, Kirkpatrick only surrendered two hits and struck out five. Freshman LaMonte Wade came on for an inning of scoreless relief and junior Jake Stinnett came on in the seventh to earn his second save of the series.
Junior Kyle Convissar continued to swing a hot bat with a RBI double on Sunday. Junior Alex Ramsay added a two RBI single, and senior Jack Cleary and freshman Jose Cuas both went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
Team Szefc opened the scoring in the third inning. With Wade on second base and sophomore K.J. Hockaday on first, Cleary singled to left field off freshman Jake Drossner plating Wade to give Team Szefc a 1-0 lead.
Team Szefc blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Wade took first base after being hit by a pitch to open the inning. After Hockaday flew out to right field, Convissar ripped a double off the wall in left center field to score Wade. Convissar eventually would score when sophomore Anthony Papio's hit scooted under first baseman Tim Kiene's glove.
With Cleary at third, Cuas dropped a single into right field which was followed by a Ramsay single to score Papio and Cuas and put Team Szefc up 6-0.
Team Szefc turned it over to the bullpen in the sixth. Wade and Stinnett came on to close the door on Team Vaughn and earn the win.
