Box Score vs. Wright State | Box Score vs. FAU
BOCA RATON, Fla. -
The Maryland softball team split its two games Saturday with a 4-1 win over Florida Atlantic and an 8-0 loss to Wright State in FAU's Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
In the win over the tournament-host Owls (1-8), Florida Atlantic scored its lone run in the second inning after a leadoff triple. It was the only hit freshman pitched Kaitlyn Schmeiser allowed the Owls.
The Terrapins (3-1) tied it up in the bottom of the second after senior Bree Hanafin singled, then scored off of an FAU error.
Maryland added a second run in the bottom of the fourth inning off of three Owls' errors. Pinch runner Bria Taylor scored off of senior Kathy McLaughlin's fielder's choice.
The Terps scored their third and fourth runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and runners on first and second, senior Sloane Van Meter singled to left center to score both runners.
In the game vs. Wright State (3-4), which was their first of the day, the Terrapins left five runners on base and tallied only two hits.
Van Meter led the Terrapins offensively on the day. She notched two hits and hit a double.
Schmeiser made both starts in the circle for the Terps. In her 10.0 innings, she allowed five hits, two earned runs and racked up eight strikeouts.
The Terps will close out the weekend with an 11 a.m. game vs. No. 22 Kentucky on Sunday.

The Terrapins will return home this week to face Oakland Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Admission is free and parking will be free in lot 4B starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Prior to that, fans can be subject to ticketing.
