Postgame notes following Maryland's 75-70 win over Miami Tuesday at Comcast Center.
Tipping Off: Maryland improved to 16-11, including 6-7 in the ACC while Miami fell to 16-10 (7-6 ACC) ... the Terps have won three in a row against the Canes at Comcast Center and are 5-1 at home, though Miami leads the overall series 12-8 ... Maryland overcame a five-point deficit with 2:04 left to win.
Down the Stretch: Maryland went on an impressive run over the last two minutes of the game to win. Trailing 66-61 after a free throw by Miami's Dequan Jones with 2:04 left, Maryland went on a 10-0 run started by Sean Mosley's 3-pointer with 1:37 left. James Padgett then converted a three-point play, Mosley hit a pair of free throws and so did Stoglin, all within a span of 1:15. The Terps outscored Miami 14-4 overall over the last 1:37.
On Point: Nick Faust had a solid all-around game while running the point. The freshman, who is averaging 12.5 since taking over at point guard for the injured Pe'Shon Howard, had 8 against Miami. He also matched a season high with 8 rebounds, while chipping in 4 assists. He also made a steal from Durand Scott with 0:32 left and Maryland leading by just one. Sean Mosley's ensuing free throws helped ice the game.
Stoglin Moves Up List: Terrell Stoglin knocked down 3 3-pointers and has now made 75 this season. That moves him past Drew Nicholas (72, 2003) for fourth place on the Maryland single season 3-point FGs list. Stoglin also totaled 20 points for the 19th time this season, as Maryland improved to 13-6 in games he reaches that plateau.
Starting Frontcourt: Going against a big Miami frontline in 6-foot-10 Reggie Johnson and 6-foot-11 Kenny Kadji, Maryland's starting frontcourt of James Padgett and Ashton Pankey put forth solid games. Padgett was 6-of-8 with a career-high tying 16 points (vs. Illinois, 11/29), while Pankey added six points. Padgett has reached double figures two of last three games (15 vs. Boston College). The duo had 13 rebounds (Pankey seven, Padgett six).
Sharing the Ball: Maryland had 15 assists on 26 field goals, marking the second-most helpers for the Terps this season (19 vs. Albany, 12/28). Sean Mosley matched a season high with six, Nick Fuast had four, Terrell Stoglin had three and Ashton Pankey had two.
First-Half Notes: Maryland shot a better percentage overall than Miami (.462 to .375), but the Hurricanes knocked down 5-of-13 3-pointers while the Terps made just 2-of-9 ... Miami outrebounded Maryland 21 to 14 ... the Terps had eight assists on 12 baskets and held a 10-4 advantage in points off turnovers ... Miami had the advantage in 2nd-chance points (8-0) and bench points (10-0).
Second-Half Notes: Maryland had a 22-10 advantage on the boards ... the Terps held an 18-14 advantage in points in the paint and 8-5 advantage in 2nd-chance points ... Maryland had seven assists to Miami's two.
