COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland starting pitcher David Carroll kept Duke at bay for seven innings, but the Blue Devils rallied from a 3-2 deficit with three runs in the eighth to take a 5-3 victory over the Terps Sunday afternoon.

A day after scoring 21 runs on 20 hits, Maryland (24-14, 7-11 ACC) managed just three runs on five hits in the finale, as Duke starting pitcher Robert Huber turned in a complete game.

Still, the Terps were in position for a series sweep as they headed into the eighth with a 3-2 lead. Carroll had needed just 75 pitches to get through the first seven innings, and retired the first batter he faced in the eighth.

But Duke's Jeff Kremer started a rally with a single up the middle, and Carroll gave way to reliever Charlie Haslup. A single by Marcus Stroman and an intentional walk loaded the bases, and Duke (14-23, 6-12 ACC) tied it up with Mike Rosenfeld's sacrifice fly.

With two outs and runners on second and third, Blue Devil pinch-hitter Will Piwnica-Worms slapped a two-run opposite-field single to clear the bases and give Duke a 5-3 lead.

Maryland then went hitless over the final two innings as Duke salvaged a win out of the three-game set.

Haslup (3-3), who was the winning pitcher in Maryland's Friday-night walk-off victory, was saddled with the loss on Sunday. The junior allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning.

Huber improved to 4-3 by pitching Duke's first complete game of the season, scattering five hits while allowing three runs. Huber struck out six and walked two while throwing 116 pitches.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, the teams went back-and-forth in the middle innings, trading single runs.

Ryan Holland led off the third with a triple down the right-field line and later scored on a Duke fielding error to give Maryland the 1-0 lead. Duke tied it in the fourth, but K.J. Hockaday gave the Terps a lead again with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning.

After Duke tied it in the fifth when Anthony D'Alessandro singled and later scored on a wild pitch, the game remained tied until the seventh.

That's when pinch-hitter Jake Stinnett roped a two-out double to left field to score Holland and give Maryland a 3-2 lead.

The Terps have a pair of mid-week games upcoming, with James Madison visiting Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium Tuesday at 6 p.m. Maryland then heads to Towson for a 3 p.m. Wednesday matchup.
