Terps Host Military Appreciation Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - At every Maryland home men's basketball game, local military personnel are honored during the first half. No matter the rank, position or affiliation, the patrons at Comcast Center always give the same reception, measured and respectful applause to those military veterans.
Wednesday night was no exception, as the University of Maryland combined with local military officials to hold "Military Appreciation Night" in conjunction with the Terrapins game against Florida State.
"The relationship between Fort Meade and the University of Maryland is a tremendous example of community partnership," Colonel Ed Rothstein, Garrison Commander, Fort George G. Meade said. "The University's on-going commitment to our service men and women is one of the many reasons why they are such a valuable member of Team Meade."
The night started with 23 service members visiting from Fort Meade unfurling a court-sized flag during a rendition of the national anthem by the Maryland Pep Band. In addition, video messages in support of the Terrapins from military members overseas were shown over the course of the game.
The University also honored its own military presence, with three student "Terp Vets" displayed on the video board at halftime.
Additionally, members of the U.S. Army Drill team performed at halftime, entertaining the crowd with a breathtaking 10-minute routine.
