(FROM PRESS RELEASE) - The Atlantic Coast Conference, home to 12 NCAA titles in basketball, including five in the last 12 years, the premier college basketball conference in the nation, has provided fans with some of the most memorable moments in the history of the game. North Carolina freshman Michael Jordan's legendary career begins with the winning shot in a national championship game. N.C. State "survives and advances" to an improbable national title the next year on a last-second game winning dunk. Duke's J.J. Redick in 2006 breaks the ACC scoring record that had been held for more than 50 years. All pictures etched in the minds of fans across the college basketball world.
Raycom Sports is proud to present a series dedicated to the continued excellence and tradition of ACC basketball with three half-hour shows called, ACC Basketball: Kings of the Court. Former University of Virginia star and eight-year NBA guard, Cory Alexander, will host our second season of "Kings" profiling some of the biggest names in college basketball.
Our debut season during the 2012 basketball season included a trip to the North Side of Chicago to visit the neighborhood where Mike Krzyzewski's Hall of Fame career began. We also got together with three-time National Player of the Year, Virginia's Ralph Sampson, back in his hometown of Harrisonburg, Virginia and future NBA lottery pick North Carolina's Harrison Barnes at home with his family in Ames, Iowa.
This year's shows will highlight more legends including one of the best players ever in the ACC, North Carolina's Phil Ford who was named ACC Tournament MVP as a freshman and National Player of the Year as a senior. We also tell you the story of John Lucas...the Maryland guard who played 14 years in the NBA but has lived his life after the pros counseling people battle substance abuse. We'll sit down with Duke's Jay Williams who led the Blue Devils to a national title in 2001 and is now a national TV commentator. We'll hang out with Tommy Burleson, the 2-time ACC Tournament MVP who helped N.C. State to its first National Title in 1974. Kenny Anderson burst onto the college basketball scene in 1989 helping Georgia Tech to its first ever Final Four appearance. Kenny went on to play 15 years in the NBA but we find him coaching high school basketball in Florida. Finally, we'll go home with former Wake Forest and NBA star Rodney Rogers who suffered a life threatening injury four years ago in a dirt bike accident. Rodney is a quadriplegic but his attitude is that he will one day walk again. It's an inspirational story you don't want to miss.
