Morris Earns Test Scores; Will Play Basketball for Terps Next Year
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Terence Morris, a graduate of Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, Md., and the University of Maryland's prized men's basketball recruit, has passed his final attempt at a standardized test and will be eligible to play this season, pending approval by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Morris does not officially become eligible until the NCAA Clearinghouse certifies him as eligible to play Division I sports for the 1997-98 academic year; because of a backlog, that process could extend into late summer.
Morris is a slender, slashing 6-foot-8 forward who excels in scoring, rebounding and shot blocking. He recently was ranked as the nation's ninth-best men's college basketball prospect by Bob Gibbons, who runs one of the top recruiting publications.
Morris probably will step in as the Terrapins' starting small forward.
