Maryland Re-Establishes Partnership with WMAL - Radio for Men's Basketball Broadcasts
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland athletics and WMAL - Radio (630-AM) have agreed on a two-year contract which will bring Terrapin basketball back to its long running home in the Washington, D.C. market it was announced today by Director of Athletics Deborah A. Yow. The agreement will begin with Maryland's regular season opener versus South Carolina on November 14 and run through the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA Tournaments.
The agreement reunites Maryland athletics and WMAL - Radio after a six year hiatus. WMAL previously held the Washington, D.C. area broadcasting rights from 1975 through 1991.
"We are proud to be reunited with WMAL - Radio" said Yow. "Maryland athletics and WMAL radio is a wonderful fit. Their signal strength is excellent. The addition of WMAL to our radio network results in one of the most comprehensive athletic radio networks for any Atlantic Coast Conference basketball program. WMAL is also the favorite radio station of many of our D.C. area fans.
WMAL is the only AM station in the metropolitan area to be included in the top-ten of the most recent arbitron ratings. WMAL sports director Tim Brant is a Maryland alumnus and played football for the Terrapins.
