TERPS LOOKING FOR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE UPPER ECHELON FINISH
A Maryland victory over Wake Forest tonight would guarantee the Terps a share of the third place finish in the ACC standings. It would mark the fifth consecutive upper echelon ACC finish for the Gary Williams-coached Terps, who finished as the ACC regular season champions during the 1994-95 season. Maryland finished its league competition with a 12-4 record that season. In each of the last five years, the Terps have won at least eight ACC games. A victory tonight would give the Terps nine conference wins - the same amount as it earned during the 1996-97 season in finishing in a tie for fourth place. Maryland's watermark for ACC victories under Williams is 12 during the 1994-95 season.
MARYLAND'S FIVE CONSECUTIVE UPPER ECHELON ACC FINISHES
A Maryland victory tonight over Wake Forest would give the program its fifth consecutive upper echelon ACC finish. It would mark the first time since the 1972-73 through 1976-77 seasons that the Terps will have finished in the top half of the ACC standings.
KOVARIK ON FIVE TOP HALF ACC TEAMS
A Maryland victory over Wake Forest tonight would make redshirt senior Matt Kovarik the first player in school history to play on five upper echelon ACC teams. Kovarik, a team captain, was forced to take a redshirt season in 1995-96 due to a leg injury. He played in five games that season, below the minimum amount for the year to count against his four years of eligibility.
