
Terps Close Out Fall with Sunday Sweep

COLLEGE PARK, Md - Junior Corey Schwartz went 3-for-7 with a team high 6 RBI's and a booming two run home run to lead the Maryland Softball team to a Sunday sweep over D.C. rivals Georgetown and George Washington. The Terrapins bested Georgetown 8-5, and defeated George Washington 3-2.
Game One
After falling behind early, Maryland rallied for eight straight runs featuring fourteen hits en route to an 8-5 win over Georgetown.
The Hoyas took the early lead with three runs in the first inning off a few bad hops for the Maryland infielders. With the Maryland bats quiet through the first two, Georgetown would hold a 3-0 advantage.
Sarah Calta got the first of Maryland's fourteen hits to start off the third inning and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Erin Pronobis and Mandy Gardner would follow with some timely hits and the Hoya lead was cut to one.
Brenna Nation used that run support to get Georgetown in order to complete her day. The redshirt sophomore continued her strong fall, only allowing one earned run off two hits in three innings of work.
Maryland picked up four runs in the fifth. Hits by Shannon Bustillos and Bridget Hawvermale set up Corey Schwartz for the two-RBI go-ahead single. Freshman Jacqui Pascual then brought Schwartz in with an RBI triple down the right field line. Juli Strange followed with an RBI sac fly and the Terrapins held a 6-3 lead through five.

Georgetown would pick up two late runs, but Kaitlyn Schmeiser closed it out with a shutdown seventh to give Maryland the victory in game one.
Game Two
Mandy Gardner's go-ahead RBI single in the sixth led Maryland to a come from behind 3-2 victory in the fall finale against George Washington.
George Washington took an early lead with a home run in the first inning. The arms of Brenna Nation and Jaymi Bautista-Geiger shut down the Colonials after that, holding the deficit at 1-0 until the fifth.
Maryland would tie the game in the fifth. A double by Shannon Bustillos and a single by Erin Pronobis gave the Terrapins second and third with one out. Corey Schwartz's RBI groundout tied the score at 1-1.
George Washington used a triple and a passed ball to retake the lead in the sixth.
Down 2-1, Maryland would go ahead for good in the sixth. Erin Pronobis was hit by a pitch and then scored when Corey Schwartz' perfect bunt caused a George Washington. With the game tied and Schwartz on third, Mandy Gardner lined a single to left to put the Terrapins on top.
Kaitlyn Schmesier closed out her second game of the day to preserve the Maryland win.
Maryland closed out the fall season with a 7-1 record; outscoring it's opponents by nineteen runs with an average of 6.5 runs per game. The Maryland pitching staff combined for a stellar 2.25 team ERA.
