COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The defending national champion Maryland women's lacrosse team enters the 2015 campaign ranked No. 1 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20, as announced by the publication Monday.
The Terrapins return 11 starters from last year when the team tied a program record with 23 wins en route to a sixth-straight ACC Championship and the 11th NCAA Championship in Maryland program history. Five of the Terps' returning starters were named IWLCA All-Americans last year. Junior Taylor Cummings became the youngest winner of the prestigious Tewaaraton Award as just a sophomore, and was joined by senior Megan Douty as a finalist.
The Terps open the 2015 season Feb. 15 at William & Mary. Maryland embarks on a new challenge in the first year of Big Ten lacrosse and will face 10 opponents also ranked in the Nike/LM preseason poll. Four Big Ten squads, including the Terps, are listed in the rankings.
