COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Baseball America tabbed the University of Maryland baseball team's incoming recruiting class as the 22nd-best in the country in its annual rankings released Tuesday.
It's the second straight season the Terps have earned a top-25 grade from the noted publication. Maryland's class was rated the best among Big Ten schools.
Maryland's class boasts 13 true freshmen and two junior college transfers. Two members of the class, pitchers Hunter Parsons and Andrew Miller, were selected in the 2015 MLB Draft. RHP John Murphy is the top rated player in the class in Baseball America's top 500 prospects.
Baseball America also named Marty Costes a top prospect in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League.
Incoming freshman Nick Dunn was named a top prospect from the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, while fellow freshman Nick Browne earned plaudits as a top prospect from the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. Both lists were compiled by Perfect Game.
The Terps set a school record for wins last season with 42 and advanced to their second consecutive NCAA Super Regional.
Maryland takes the field for its Fall World Series this weekend. Game one of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15 at Hoy Field on the campus of Gallaudet University at 2:30 p.m. The second game will be played at Gallaudet on Saturday Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. as well, with game three scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at Harford Community College.
The Fall World Series is being played away from College Park as a result of the ongoing renovations to Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
