PHILADELPHIA – The Maryland women's tennis team completed play at the Cissie Leary Invitational Sunday.
In Fight A singles, senior Nataliya Bredikhina defeated Valerie Shklover of Yale in the first round, 6-4, 6-3, before falling to Katrina Steffensen of Princeton. Bredikhina also picked up a win in consolation action. Senior Olga Bredikhina also competed in Flight A, but dropped her first two matches.
Junior Olivia Gaudreault won her opening round match in Flight B singles over Mariana Bedon of Temple. She dropped her second round match before defeating Caroline Amos of Yale, 6-4, 6-2.
Junior Cassandre Thebault also competed in Flight B, and notched an opening round win against Caroline Lynch of Yale, 6-1, 6-4. She fell in three sets in her second round contest. Thebault won her consolation match, 3-6, 6-3, (10-3).
In doubles, Gaudreault and Bredikhina advanced to the semifinals of the Flight B bracket. The duo knocked off the combined team of Hu and Elgegren, 6-0, before taking out Collins and Preotescu, 6-3.
The Terps return to action at the ITA Regionals in Lynchburg, Va., on Oct. 15.
